waves crashing

The sunrise is ever beautiful.

Tracing the steps to the coastline,
he took a disconsolate look at the sea.
that dark sea reflecting the moon..
one day. one day...

It all started that day.
sometime back.
no to be exact, 4 years and 17 days
she was rushing home
and he was minding his own business

It all started with a bump.
She in her rush knocked into him.
and he dropped all his books.

Cliche as it may seem
but that was how they met.

She didn't stop to pick up the books
and he was cursing under his breath

Nothing would not have happen
if only he didn't see it
- the cute little purse she dropped
picking it up, he opened it and looked in

the contents gave him directions
and he made his way
and this was the start of a journey

one that did not end at her doorsteps...

walking past the rows of flowers
he detected the pleasing redolence
memories.. fragments of them
brought his heart low...

he brought her flowers
even though they had barely known each other
she saw him through teary eyes
and he saw in her eyes
those same eyes
which shone with joy
with mixed bitteranger and yet with a tinge of relief
those eyes that betrayed the innoncene she thought
she had lost..
that very same eyes
soon shone with love

the road is long
it was now an uphill climb
the initial pace soon slowed to a walk

soon they started to know each other better
she made him food everyday
and he would walk her home
the days were prefect
where they would laugh together

growing closer,
they started to talk about life
and soon he drew the resolve to ask her
the very question he wanted to ask

the very explanation he needed
the very reason why..
but she
knowing what he wanted to say
broke into tears and ran

she was not prepared
she wanted more time
i wish.. oh how i wish..

she didn't turn up in school the next day
he didn't walk her home
and a week later
she met him
she was the usual smiling girl

she apologised
she smiled
she offered him her homemade snack

but...

he walked away
for he felt insecure
he wanted to help her
yet she rejected it..

he couldn't comprehend
what he saw that day

tears flowed
he was close to the beach
walking along the road
he saw the distant skyline
and it started to shower...

he punched him right in the gut
but the man did not stop
still he advanced
a beer bottle in one hand
a stick in another

there she was
lying on the ground
crying as the heavens would

her arms were bleeding
her ankle was twisted
such a beautiful face
yet the man wrecked her body

knowing he could not outwin the man
he covered her with his own body
the rains of blows that followed

unspeakable pain

her father finally gave in to the alcohol
pushing himself up, he carried her
and ran to the hospital

the shelter sheltered him
while rain rained down

he walked away
and didn't talk to her for weeks
finally one day
she left

he was devestated
crying in that heart of his

a letter laid unopen

an answer that remained sealed

the rain stopped
he proceeded towards the shore
the sky was clear

the letter bore her handwriting
yet the contents were read too late
too late..

she had asked him
to meet her one final time
as she was going away
from that abusive father of hers
to a new land
and she asked if he would follow

the promise she made
was to wait for him
till the dawn breaks
and if he didn;t turn up
she would leave

would she return?
maybe she said
the same spot
at the break of dawn

maybe in a month's time
maybe in a year
maybe in ten years
or maybe ..

never

he climbed over the banister
the time is near
walking closer to the sea
he saw the break of the sun
the waves crashing
dissapointment
he stared into the horizon
eyes searching
heart wanting
as the sense of deep longing swells
dejected, desolate
she's not here
siting down
he smiled
one day she will return
one day we would be reunited
bathed in sunlight
we would reunite

ahh..

The sunrise is ever beautiful.
