Joseph woke up from his long sleep.
Beads of sweat had formed upon his forehead and while he strained his eyes, Joseph saw a familar figure in the kitchen. It was another teenager roughly around his age, clad in white and roughly a little taller then him.
The teenager was busying cooking up something and Joseph could now smell the sweet aroma of coffee coming from the coffeemaker.
The teenage turnt around and saw that he was awake. Putting the saucepan down, he walked quickly to Joseph and placed his hand on his forehead.
"So you've waken? Are you feeling better ?"
Joesph struggled to sit up from the bed and then stared into the teenager's eyes.
"Who are you? I don't seem to recongize you"
The teenager smiled gently and replied, "It doesn't matter for now, what matters is you get your breakfast and recover quickly"
Joseph smiled and took his hand as the teenager led him into the dining room.
Before them was a good meal prepared by the teenager, french toast and coffee along with scrambled eggs and hotdogs. Sitting down, Joseph gave a quick thanks to God and proceeded to consume the meal while the teenager took a seat opposite of him. As Joseph started to eat, the teenager began to observe him. This went on for a while before Joseph decided that the silence was getting too awkward.
Joseph looked up and mustered his courage to start a conversation.
"So, who actually are you? I mean, i appreciate the breakfast but it is kind of weird if i do not know who you are and why you are doing this."
The teenager smiled and like all pyshacrists in movies, made a tent out of his hands.
" Well you can say, i'm your best friend because i know what you are going through and i can relate to you. What i am doing is to simply make your life happier and also to share your burdens. I want to know you better and i want to be closer to you so that i can relate to you."
Joseph was still puzzled but at least he now knew that this teenager meant no harm.
As if to validate his claim, the teenager then proceeded to ask him a series of questions.
He asked Joseph about his views on the educational policies, about controvesial issues like abortion and also random things like whether he would like to visit the moon one day if he could.
They chatted for an hour when the conversation got more personal.
The conversation reached the issues of his struggles.
" Tell me then, Joseph, what are some of your problems you face ? "
Joseph stopped and he rested against the back of the chair.
Taking a deep breathe he said, " Well, there's alot of struggle i go through, basically school, family and even church. Friendship espically, but i really don't know how to explain..."
The teenager laid his hand on the table and looked into his eyes, then sighed.
"How about this? You explain slowly and i listen to you? Maybe through this we can sort things out. Care to give it a try?"
Joseph thought for a moment then decided that there was no harm in doing so.
"Well basically, i struggle in class. I mean, there's friends and i know they do care, but the thing is, i feel so left out. Everyone's studying and i feel that all the conversation or care are only skin-deep. They do not understand me at all and i feel so lost. You get what i mean?"
The teenager nodded in approval and encouraged Joseph to continue
"Furthermore, my family do not know what i am going through. Everyone is so occupied with their own work and i am left all alone. All alone to face these struggles and all these fears. I cannot find anyone to relate to. I feel so lost and sucidial at times."
"What about your close friends?" The teenager asked.
Tears flowed down Joseph's face
" I don't know... All of them have their own struggles and all of them have their own commitments to occupy them. My close friend is.. well.. locked up in his own world.. and i don't know why but i feel that way too. Everyone is living in his own world and i find it hard to continue in this way, because.. because.. it is too painful. The hurt is too great.. knowing that you got life's struggles but you have to face it alone.. and knowing that you friend is in need yet you don't know how to help.. Everytime everything seems alright and ok but we all know that it is not. It's like we are old friends and yet because of these problems we all become shallow and the conversations we have are always so short and shallow. We keep avoiding our problems but it's like.. i mean... nobody will ever understand anything i'm "
Joseph couldn't continue.. tears choked his eyes and he raised his arms to wipe his tears away.
The teenager reached out and handed Joseph a tissue. Then drawing his chair nearer to Joseph, he sat down and he held onto Joseph's hands. "Joseph, look at me." Joseph looked up and saw the teenager's face. It was one with understanding and concern
"Joseph, who says that anybody will not understand what you are going through? That is a selfish statement. No i shall not permit you to say that. Look at me Joseph, look at me."
Joseph continued to stare into that face and wondered in amzement.
The teenager continued,"Look Joseph, why do you think i bothered to do all these? That's because i cared. I know you may be going through a lot of struggles but get a hold of yourself. This is not the end of the world, thank God for anything you have now. Good or bad, they all have a purpose and if you allow yourself to wallow in all these. Joseph, a man that recongizes the good things in good times is a thankful man, a man that recongizes the good things in bad times is a faithful man. Look, God has a purpose for all of us. Don't give up."
Joseph closed his eyes and cried even louder.
He thought of all the times.
The past
Where life was full of struggles
But he never gave up
He depended on God
He prayed every night
That was the key wasn't it?
He knelt and started to pray.
He prayed for hope and he prayed for strength.
He prayed and he cried out loud.
He prayed and he heard.. every tear he cried, God held in his hand
He resolved to lead a life, trusting in God. Focusing on Him and not the problems
Smiling, he stood up and gave thanks.
He gave thanks for the joy he had, no matter how little it was
He gave thanks for the life he still had, no matter how dark it was
He gave thanks for the troubles, no matter how deep they were
He gave thanks for the teenager, no matter what, he was always understanding
He opened his eye anticipating the smile on the teenager's face
And yet he was not there...
Who was he?
